About MPHC

Mornington Peninsula Hockey Club was founded in October and incorporated in December 1995. The aim was to build a family based club on the Peninsula, improve the standard of hockey played, be involved with the youth in the area through sport, provide assistance to schools with coaching and umpiring, obtain a synthetic turf ground in the area.

The Foundation Members were George Bruce, Margaret Nettleship, Kath Micallef, Michael Edwards, Sally Lewis, Kerri Lawry, Cheryle Bishop, Vincent Lewis and Rhonda Bennett.

In 1995 the club with the support of local schools on the Mornington Peninsula began with a Summer Indoor Recruiting program, conducted out of Frankston Tafe basketball stadium. As a result of this intensive recruiting the club was able to enter six competitive junior teams into the 1996 Victorian Junior Hockey competition, obtaining immediate success. Training was conducted out of Tafe and on the grass hockey fields at Eel Race Road, Seaford.

In 1997, the first of many meetings between the club, Frankston and Mornington Councils was conducted to discuss the viability of the proposed turf ground. The Club was officially launched the club at Bayside Shopping Centre, Frankston and our first Senior Women’s State League 4 and Men’s Metro 4 South teams were entered.

1998 saw MPHC built a ¼ sized training area at The Peninsula School, Mt Eliza with turf purchased from Frankston Bowling Club. This ground served as the club's home base for junior training and summer hockey, with the seniors eventually training at Dandenong on the full-sized turf.

In 2001 the Men’s team achieved  State League 5 and finally by 2002, MPHC moved to its new home - a full-sized turf at Monash University, Peninsula Campus, Frankston (shared with the Frankston Stingrays Hockey Club, and Peninsula Women's Hockey Assoc.). Having a home base impacted greatly on the club resulting in an increasing number of players, and more room for better skills and fitness training.

In 2006 MPH entered our first Veterans team with immediate premiership success. Permanent canteen and club rooms were constructed and finally completed and opened in 2008. 2009 was a big year with a large increase of womens teams, and an additional 5 premierships added to the stable.

The club has achieved enormous success both on and off the field with increasing numbers of players enjoying and playing hockey, with grades provided to suit all levels of skills and experience in Junior, Mens and Womens competitions. Many MPHC players have achieved selection in development squads and talented juniors have represented State indoor and outdoor teams.

MPHC is also a strong supporter of participation for youth, running many programs in conjunction with local schools as well as Minkey and Hookin2hockey programs .

Mission Statement: "A club dedicated to developing hockey on the Mornington Peninsula, providing a family friendly environment that values participation, enjoyment and excellence. Our club is committed to promoting skill, sportsmanship and good health to enable all members to reach their full potential.
