Happy Reading..

Fixtures for 2013 are no longer with Sporting Pulse - Hockey Australia and its State affiliates have moved to IMG Sportsdesq. Some of the SportingPulse features that you may have found useful in previous seasons are not available at this time in the IMG system.

In the interim, and early in the season, there is the combined Club fixture for the fourth week of the Senior round. You should check the online fixture each week for last minute changes.

Available Club fixtures for each team can be accessed from the main menu, and coming weeks are also embedded in the Club calendar, which is accessible via the upcoming events in the left pane.

Note: Junior fixtures are currently week-by-week, subject to change and so you should go to the IMG sportdesq for these

Local Hockey goes PINK

Mornington Peninsula Hockey Club turned pink on Sunday 17th March when it held a charity fund raising day for the McGrath Foundation, supporting breast cancer awareness. Over 100 women took part in hockey practice matches in preparation for the start of the season, which is just a few weeks away.

Along with the Mornington players, visiting hockey clubs supported the day by also donating to the cause. These included Monash University, Bayside and Brunswick. With ‘Pink’ being the theme, there were decorations, socks, hair ribbons and even pink cup cakes thanks to Sam and Tahlia. Some of the men also got on board wearing pink and helping out on the day.

Monash University Frankston donated the pitch hire for the day and local umpires donated their time. There was an official welcome by MPHC President Mark Harrington, followed by an address from local Frankston councillors Rebecca Spelman and Daryl Taylor.

Four Ladies from the Southern Sounds Chorus performed a moving tribute to the victims of breast cancer. ‘Over the rainbow’ was beautifully sung by Neroli, Sharelle, Lorraine and Christine, each of whom have lost a loved one to the disease. They then released pink helium balloons in memory.

The day proved to be such a success that there are talks of making it even bigger next year with the possibility of turning into a weekend event, incorporating Men’s Health, with men’s matches on the Saturday and the women’s on the Sunday.

A big thank you to our sponsors: Frankston Council, Monash University and Just Hockey. Also to all the volunteers: Lou, Sandra, and everyone who assisted in the canteen. Teaghan and Jess who sold stacks of Raffle tickets. Darren, Jerome, Deb and Norm who decorated and organised the day. Shane, Richard and Jules who cooked the BBQ. Cheryle for organising all the Raffle prizes. All the umpires who donated their time: Robyn, Matt, Ben, John and Kim.

Well done everyone, many hands make light work and much success - the event raised over $1200 donated to the foundation.

Cheryle Bishop and Deb Stockdale
